INGREDIENTS:
- 3 tbsp shortening or margarine
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cup boiling water
STEP BY STEP:
- Cream together shortening/margarine and sugar
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt
- Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture alternately with 1/2 cup of milk
- Fold in 1/2 cup chopped nuts. Put batter into ungreased 9-inch baking pan
- Mix together brown sugar, cocoa, and salt
- Sprinkle over top of batter. Do not stir. Pour 1-1/2 cups boiling water over all
- Bake at 350 degree F for 40 to 45 minutes
- Serve with whipped cream or ice cream. Best served warm.
