INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/3 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 5 thin slices stale bread
  • 2 eggs

STEP BY STEP:

  1. Line bottom of greased pudding dish with raisins. Cut bread slices in 3 strips, crosswise
  2. Dip each in melted butter and arrange on top of raisins. Beat remain ingredients together and pour over bread
  3. Set dish in pan of hot water. Bake in hot oven 375 degrees F until bread is browned and a knife blade comes out clean. Serve plain or with cream.
  4. For variation: Instead of bread, substitute sweet rolls, sweet buns, sponge cake, or lady fingers. Serve with custard sauce.
