INGREDIENTS:
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 5 thin slices stale bread
- 2 eggs
STEP BY STEP:
- Line bottom of greased pudding dish with raisins. Cut bread slices in 3 strips, crosswise
- Dip each in melted butter and arrange on top of raisins. Beat remain ingredients together and pour over bread
- Set dish in pan of hot water. Bake in hot oven 375 degrees F until bread is browned and a knife blade comes out clean. Serve plain or with cream.
- For variation: Instead of bread, substitute sweet rolls, sweet buns, sponge cake, or lady fingers. Serve with custard sauce.
