INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 loaf chocolate bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 tbsp butter
  • maple or fruit syrup
  • sifted powdered sugar

STEP BY STEP:

  1. Slice the loaf into 1-inch-thick slices
  2. In a shallow dish or bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, cinnamon and vanilla until blended
  3. Soak each slice in the egg mixture, turning several times
  4. Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large, heavy skillet until bubbling. Add soaked slices to the pan and cook until golden brown on one side, about 2 minutes
  5. Turn and cook on the second side for about 2 more minutes. Repeat with the remaining egg-soaked bread slices
  6. Serve with maple or fruit syrup and powdered sugar.
