INGREDIENTS:
- 1 loaf chocolate bread
- 3 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 1/2 tbsp butter
- maple or fruit syrup
- sifted powdered sugar
STEP BY STEP:
- Slice the loaf into 1-inch-thick slices
- In a shallow dish or bowl, beat the eggs with the milk, cinnamon and vanilla until blended
- Soak each slice in the egg mixture, turning several times
- Meanwhile, melt the butter in a large, heavy skillet until bubbling. Add soaked slices to the pan and cook until golden brown on one side, about 2 minutes
- Turn and cook on the second side for about 2 more minutes. Repeat with the remaining egg-soaked bread slices
- Serve with maple or fruit syrup and powdered sugar.
